How to Improve Your Confidence - Confidence Is Just Like Riding a Bicycle

Let's face it. Whether you like it or not, your confidence is going to affect how far you are going to progress in life, be it in your career, relationship or other areas of your life.

The fact is, some people are naturally more confident than others. But does it mean that if you are not confident by nature, you can't work on it? Well, of course not! Like anything in life, you can work on it. Confidence can be build. You just need to know how to improve your confidence.

Personally, I believe the confidence is a skill, just like riding a bicycle. As you practice riding the bicycle more often, you will eventually become a better cyclist. Confidence works in the same manner. The more often you work on your confidence, the more confident you will become.

So, let us look at the various ways you can develop your confidence.

1) Help Others and You Will Find Happiness

A lot of times, people lack confidence simply because they focus too much on themselves. Almost every single minute, they are thinking about how others are viewing them.

For example, they usually have the following conversation in their mind.

'Are they lauging at me?'

'Oh, that is so embarrassing?'

'Are they impressed by my performance?'

There are many more. The bottomline is, when you constantly focus on yourself and think about yourself, it is not going to help your confidence.

Why not focus on helping others instead. It takes the focus away from yourself and it is also a very meaningful thing to do. Also, when you help others, you feel good which will in turn build your confidence level.

But how to help others, you may be wondering?

Well, there are many ways you can help others, whether in a small way or in a big way.

The fact is, when we are talking about helping others, it does not always have to be in a big way. Even doing a small thing for other people will make you feel good.

For example, if you see a colleague of yours is busy and have to work overtime, why not get him some snacks or drinks. It is a very small gesture but a nice gesture nevertheless. Your colleague will appreciate it.

Of course, you can also choose to volunteer your time to help those who are less fortunate. Do more community services. This will help you build your confidence and you will also feel happier.

2) Improve Your Public Speaking Skills

Public speaking is probably the number one fear for many people.

I remembered a joke and I am going to share it with you now. Can't really remember who said it, but here is the joke anyway:

It is said that in an eulogy, some people would rather be the one lying in the coffin than to be the one who is reading the eulogy. So can you see how intense the fear of public speaking is. People rather die than to speak in public! Isn't that interesting?

Obviously, when you have an intense fear of public speaking, it is going to impact your confidence level to a certain extent.

Fortunately, there are always things you can do to overcome your fear of public speaking. For example, you can join a Toastmaster club. Basically, in a Toastmaster club, you can practice public speaking in a safe environment.

The bottomline is, in order to overcome your fear of public speaking, you have to keep on doing the very thing you fear, and this is to speak in public more often.

Imagine overcoming the fear of public speaking. Don't you think you will be a more confident person if you know that you have the ability to speak well in public at any time without any fear?

3) Work On Your Relationship

Relationship is definitely a very important area of our life. In fact, losing a relationship can greatly affect our confidence.

For example, you do not want to go through a break up and wonder how to get her back for good. When you put in the effort to nurture your relationship, you will be able to sow what you reap.

Having a fulfilling relationship can really make a big difference to how happy we are as well as how confident we are.

4) Get In Shape

Do you feel out of shape? Are you overweight? To a certain extent, being overweight can affect a person's confidence. I am not saying that this is true for every single person.

The truth is, some people are fine with being overweight. But for others, their weight is a very big issue, especially for women, even to the extent that their confidence is affected.

So how to get in shape? Well, the best way is to start working out. Not only is it the best way to get in shape, but it is also a healthy thing to do. Exercising will also help to relieve stress and make you feel so much happier.

When you look better, you will naturally be more confident about yourself. And when you are fitter and healthier due to regular exercise, it will also help to boost your confidence.

5) Healthy Diet

Of course, in order to get in shape, exercise along is not enough. A healthy diet is also necessary. When you eat healthily, it will improve your overall well being. Which means you will also feel more confident about yourself as a result.

Also, it takes discipline to maintain a healthy diet. So when you know you have the discipline to do so, you will also feel more confident about yourself.

Great points, I totally agree with helping others to find happiness. In order to get something, you have to give something away. Good article.

its funny how you never really understand these concepts until you actually experience them. Like the healthy diet, has had such effect on my ability to focus and work on some tasks which i would've never thought of. I think its defiantly an important aspect of building confident and experiencing everything life has to offer.

Thanks great hub.

Self confidence can be learn, it is probably true. Even the most quite student in class can be the most talkative asset of the group. It just a matter of break to express their real personality.
